Josh Markham, Missions and Facilities Director
In Matthew 22, Jesus commands us to love our neighbors. At First Church, we seek to share the love of Christ with our neighbors in meaningful and practical ways. We participate in missions because we are God's people, and we are following Christ's example. In addition to sponsoring local organizations that invest in our community, we provide opportunities for local, national, and international mission.
TOOLS NEEDED FOR MISSIONS
Thanks to the donations from our community and within the church the mis-sions team has purchased a new trailer for projects. We are accepting used tools to replace the ones we lost in the trailer theft. Please bring your donations to the church office attn: Josh Markham. If we end up with duplicates we will use them to put together starter kits for workers looking for a job in the construc-tion industry. Please do not purchase new tools and donate them as we can stretch a dollar by using our discount and tax exempt status. We do all kinds of projects so all kinds of tools are needed. Thanks in advance!
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in..."
Take the opportunity this year to see this verse in action. Sign up your small group, Sunday School class, civic group, work crew, lunch group, bunko team, bowling team, knitting club or any other group to serve lunch at the Journey Home on the 4th Thursday of the month. Available dates are on the Mission board in the East hall. Volunteers are needed to set up, serve and clean up for lunch on the 4th Thursday of each month. If possible, a $200 donation is appreciated to cover food costs. Call or email Josh Markham if you have questions, firstname.lastname@example.org.
SECOND SATURDAY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY
Each 2nd Saturday we send volunteers out in the community to answer the call of "I need help with...". Anyone can help answer this call. We meet at the church (South Entrance) at 8:30 am and aim to be done by noon. No skills required. Project requests are piling up. This is a great opportunity to serve and share the love of Christ in our community. Please call or email Josh Markham if you can volunteer, email@example.com.
SEASONAL MISSION OPPORTUNITIES
Thanksgiving at The Journey Home - We will have several opportunities to help with Thanksgiving at The Journey Home. Our church will be providing turkeys and hams for the meal. We will cook these Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Donations of turkey breasts and hams would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Josh Markham if you can help.
FUMC Angel Tree - This year our Angel Tree will be up before Thanksgiving so you can take advantage of discounted shopping. Each year our program provides gifts to over a hundred local children and some adults that would otherwise go without. The gifts include much needed clothes. Our list is generated from clients of The Journey Home and others that the church helps.
Gifts of Giving - Alternative gift giving gives you an opportunity to support a mission in honor or in memory of someone. This year's selection includes some child friendly gifts that are smaller dollar amounts. Please contact Josh Markham if you would like more information regarding these programs.
