Preschool

The philosophy of our preschool is that all children are a gift from God and are created in His image. Therefore, our response is to provide a Christian environment that encourages social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual development of the whole child. The philosophy of the First United Methodist Preschool is that early childhood should be a time of fun, warmth, security, exploring, and discovery. The staff strives to nurture and encourage these qualities in children.

CURRICULUM

We are a child-centered, play-based center. Our children learn through teacher lead play experiences:

  • Faith Based

Our preschool is based on the Christian faith and rooted in the Bible. Our children attend a chapel service on Thursdays each week. The children are also taught a monthly Bible verse. We strive to teach children by example that we are to treat others as we would like to be treated.

  • Creative Curriculum

Our primary curriculum is Creative Curriculum (You can find more information about it at Teachingstrategies.com). This education system was chosen because it allows each teacher to personalize lessons for their classes’ interests and abilities. Our teachers individualize their lesson plans and spend time with each child one on one or in a small group to further their person education.

  • STEAM

Our preschool programs include Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math even in our youngest classrooms. Teachers provide open ended materials to encourage critical thinking and problem solving. This prepares them for using the scientific method as they progress in their education.

  • Loose Parts/Piaget Learning Style

It is our philosophy that children actively construct knowledge as they explore the world around them. We use Loose Parts as a way to bring everyday items into the children’s world. Teachers set up interesting play stations and allow the children to manipulate the items in their own way.
